Art can be such a catalyst.   It brought our 30 something friends and their 4 month old baby to a preview of a group show a couple of weeks ago along with several  other supportive friends.  Baby slept peacefully through the whole affair ignoring the smoked salmon and my images on the wall.

A sense of fruition for me and the year or so I’ve spent developing a body of work and getting to grips with a digital life.  I enjoyed the whole evening immensely.    Apologies for anyone I overlooked on the invite front.  Here is an image from the show as recompense.

What next?  Remain undecided.  Just relieved that I met the deadline with assistance from Steve and George in preparing and mounting photographs.  Thank you!

I’ve made a modest start on my second blog ‘hidden seam.  I hope the two blogs will complement each other whilst retaining their separate identities.

The trestles have been set up in my studio to prepare up to eight pieces of work for a group show at the end of this month.  Two matts have to be re-cut on account of my incorrect measurements.  Not at all unusual.  Thanks to Steve and George for help in preparing material, framing and rectifying my mistakes.

I omitted to mention ‘Textile postcards’ flickr site.   For anyone involved in textiles an excellent place to submit small scale  and test pieces in postcard format.

‘Cardinal’

postcard One of my aims in starting a blog was to focus on a specific area of work.  ‘Cardinal’ is a series of photographs I’ve developed from my interest in residual traces and stains and is currently on show at Poplar Gallery.Online. It is actually a record for me.  I’ve never completed a piece of work in such a short space of time – roughly two months or so.  In some respects I’ve been successful in bringing ‘closure’   although I don’t think the time factor is of any relevance really except to me.  Poplar Gallery.Online is hosted by practitioner and lecturer in textiles Mackenzie Frere.  Our practices differ greatly.  His work to me appears totally flawless whilst my own is intentionally flawed.  One of the most enduring images for me in the series is ‘Remembrance’.  The hapless wedding dress that has been red stained, soaked, bleached, soiled and so forth.  Fast becoming my nemesis.  It seems to connect to the raggedy sample in the previous post ‘In flux’.  I’m beginning to see possibilities.  Not the closure I had intended. 2
